Arabian Horse Head with Soft Drawing Pencils

The Arabian Horse Head

Fiction inspired by the drawing:

In a cozy art studio filled with the gentle hum of creativity, a young artist named Layla was preparing for her next masterpiece. Layla adored horses, especially the elegant and graceful Arabian breed. Today, she decided to draw the head of an Arabian horse using her favorite Derwent Soft Drawing Pencils.

Materials
Layla gathered her materials:
- Derwent Soft Drawing Pencils (12 colors): Solway Blue, Ink Blue, Green Shadow, Olive Earth, Brown Ochre, Yellow Ochre, Sepia (red), Sanguine, Ruby Earth, Chocolate, Ivory Black, and Chinese White.
- Derwent Blender
- Canson Creative Sketch Journal (A5 Grey Premium Cadridge - Acid-Free - 110gsm, 50 sheets)

Step 1: Drawing the Soft Sketch
Layla opened her sketch journal to a fresh page. She began by drawing a soft sketch of the Arabian horse's head using a light hand. She used the **Ivory Black** pencil to outline the horse's delicate features - the large, expressive eyes, the curved ears, and the noble profile of its head.

Step 2: Adding Thin Layers of Color
Next, Layla started adding color. She used **Brown Ochre** and **Yellow Ochre** to lay down a base for the horse's coat. She applied the colors in thin layers, making it easier to blend later. The horse's mane was given a touch of **Sanguine** and **Sepia (red)**, adding warmth and depth.

Step 3: Enhancing Details with Color
To bring out the details, Layla carefully applied **Solway Blue** and **Ink Blue** around the eyes and nostrils, giving them a lifelike appearance. She used **Green Shadow** and **Olive Earth** to add subtle shadows, creating a sense of dimension.

Step 4: Blending Colors
With the colors in place, Layla picked up her **Derwent Blender** pencil. She gently blended the colors together, creating smooth transitions and soft gradients. The **Ruby Earth** and **Chocolate** pencils were used to add depth to the shadows, making the horse's features stand out more prominently.

Step 5: Final Touches
Layla added the final touches with the **Chinese White** pencil, highlighting the horse's glossy eyes and the shine on its mane. She stepped back and admired her work, satisfied with how the drawing captured the Arabian horse's grace and beauty.

A Note on Tools
As Layla worked, she remembered the different names for her soft drawing pencils:
- Crayons de graphite à mine tendre (French)
- Crayons de dessin à mine tendre (French)
- Weiche Zeichnenstifte (German)
- Lápices suaves de dibujo (Spanish)

These tools were not just pencils but her companions in creating art that expressed her love for horses.

The Finished Piece
Layla's drawing was now complete. The Arabian horse's head looked almost real, with its soulful eyes and flowing mane. She felt a sense of accomplishment, knowing she had created something beautiful with her own hands.

And so, in her cozy studio, Layla continued to create, one drawing at a time, each piece a testament to her passion for art and the subjects she loved.
